Walking Wearing Orange for Kidzcan 2019

The Peterhouse Boys Estates Team, ably directed by Tony Borlase, set up everything meticulously for our annual Kidzcan Charity Fundraising Event. Inspite of typical Marondera early morning thick mists, hundreds of people started arriving at our school gates to celebrate Mothers Day and the amazing work Kidzcan does, together with their children. Many were clad in funky orange outfits and tackies, ready to walk or run along a beautiful route set up through the miombo woodlands and vleis of our Calderwood Park.

Our Peterhouse Group Chaplain, Ryan Torrie, soon had everyone stretching and warming up as the mists cleared and after the shot of Mr de Kock’s rifle everyone set off to finish a 5km or 10km route together. It was special seeing speckles of orange snaking through the trees en mass, with loads of chatting, laughing and catching up going on along the way.
Roughly 600 tickets were sold at the gate that morning – where parents from all three schools to meet up with their children and friends to mark this special day in our calendar. 1000’s of dollars were raised for Kidzcan, together with a further awareness of what incredible work they do for children suffering from cancer.

If you were to arrive at Peterhouse Boys School later on that day, you would have found many groups of families and friends, sitting in the shade of trees all over the school, picnicking together, playing touch rugby or soccer together and generally catching up in the beautiful, warm May sunshine.
We thank everyone who came to Peterhouse that day. They braved the cash and fuel crisis to come together as a community. Once again, Our Kidzcan Day became one of the most special highlights of our annual school calendar.
